Air filter direction: How to properly install it in a Ford Expedition?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:47 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

Okay, this might sound dumb, but is there a correct direction for the air filter in a Ford Expedition? Just replaced mine and noticed it’s got arrows on it. Does it really matter which way it goes? Would love to not screw this up if possible!

Car jerks when braking: What’s happening with my Expedition?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:46 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

Anyone else have their Expedition jerk when braking? Mine’s a 2016, and it’s been acting weird for the past few weeks. Whenever I’m coming to a stop, especially at slower speeds, the car kinda lunges forward right before it fully stops. It’s almost like the brakes are letting go for a split second, then catching again. Brakes are fairly new—had them done about six months ago—so I’m pretty sure it’s not the pads or rotors.

I’m starting to wonder if this could be something with the transmission downshifting too aggressively, or maybe even the ABS kicking in when it’s not supposed to? I haven’t noticed any warning lights on the dash, though, so I’m a bit stumped. It’s not a huge jolt, but it’s definitely noticeable and pretty annoying. Makes me feel like I’m stopping too hard, even when I’m braking normally.

I’ve read that some people had issues with their Expedition’s torque converter causing similar symptoms. Could that be what’s happening here? Or could it be something simpler, like a sensor or brake booster issue? I really don’t want to get into an expensive fix if it’s something I can handle myself or if it’s just a minor adjustment.

Anyone else run into this problem? Any ideas on where to start looking? Would love to get some input before I take it in.

Knock sensor location on a Ford Expedition: Where can I find it?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:37 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

Can anyone tell me where the knock sensor is located on a 2013 Expedition? I’ve been getting some knock-related codes and wanna check it out myself before I take it to the shop. Not really sure what I’m looking for though. Any advice?

What does coolant smell like in a Ford Expedition?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:36 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

Is it just me, or does coolant smell kinda sweet? I’ve been getting this faint, sweet smell inside my 2016 Expedition over the past few days, and I’m starting to think it might be a coolant leak. The weird thing is, I haven’t noticed any obvious leaks under the car or in the engine bay. No puddles or anything like that, but that sweet smell makes me wonder if something’s up.

I know that coolant has a distinct smell, almost like syrup, but should I be concerned if I’m smelling it inside the cabin? Could it be something like the heater core starting to go bad? I’ve heard horror stories about heater cores leaking and causing all kinds of issues (and expensive repairs). The windows aren’t fogging up, and I haven’t noticed any coolant loss from the reservoir, so I’m kind of at a loss here.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Should I be checking certain areas like hoses or clamps for slow leaks? I’d rather catch it early before it turns into a bigger problem, but I don’t want to panic if this is just normal. Let me know what you guys think—if this smell means trouble, or if I’m just overthinking it!

Steering wheel locked up while parked: What could be the issue in a Ford Expedition?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:35 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

I went to start my 2015 Expedition today, and the steering wheel was totally locked up while parked. Tried jiggling the wheel and turning the key, but no luck. Anyone know what could be causing this? I’ve heard it might be the ignition switch but looking for other ideas.

Why is my Expedition’s steering wheel shaking at low speeds?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:34 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

Hey everyone, I’ve got a bit of a weird one with my 2017 Expedition. The steering wheel starts shaking, but only when I’m driving at low speeds, like under 30 mph. Once I get going faster, it smooths out and drives normally. I just got new tires, and the alignment was checked, so I don’t think those are the culprits.

Could this be something with the suspension or maybe the brakes? I’ve read that warped rotors can cause vibrations, but I always thought that happened when braking, not just driving slowly. It’s a pretty noticeable shake, but only at those lower speeds. I’ve also heard people mention issues with the wheel bearings or tie rods.

The fact that it clears up at higher speeds makes it tricky to pinpoint. I haven’t hit any potholes recently (that I remember), but I’m wondering if it could be something as simple as the tire balance, even though they’re new. Maybe they didn’t get balanced properly? Or could it be a loose component in the suspension?

Anyone had this happen before? Should I be looking at the ball joints or the control arms? I’d love to figure this out before taking it to a mechanic, so any advice would be great. Thanks!

What does "A/T oil temp" mean on my Ford Expedition?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:33 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

Got the “A/T oil temp” warning on my dash today… and honestly, I’ve never seen this before in all the years I’ve owned my Expedition. From what I gather, it’s related to the transmission oil temperature, but I’m not sure how serious it is. Does anyone know if this means I should pull over immediately, or can I keep driving to a shop without damaging anything? I don’t want to end up with a massive repair bill because I ignored something important.

I was towing a trailer earlier, so I’m guessing that could be the reason, but now I’m worried I might have overheated the transmission. The warning light came on after about an hour of driving, and I noticed the car felt a little sluggish right before it popped up. I turned off the engine to let it cool down, but I’m hesitant to keep driving it. How hot is too hot for transmission fluid anyway?

Also, what can I do to prevent this from happening in the future? I’ve heard that the Ford Expedition’s transmission can be a bit sensitive when towing heavy loads, but I thought I was within the towing capacity. Do I need a transmission cooler, or should I be changing the transmission fluid more often? Any advice or tips from anyone who’s dealt with this would be a lifesaver. Thanks in advance!

Ford Expedition p0750 code: What should I do?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:29 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

So I just pulled a p0750 code on my 2014 Expedition, and it’s throwing me for a loop. From what I’ve researched, it’s a shift solenoid issue, but I have no clue how to tackle this. Do I need to take it to a shop, or can I fix it myself? Anyone had this code before?

Steering wheel exclamation point on my Expedition: What does it mean?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:28 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

Got an exclamation point icon on my steering wheel, and I’m totally clueless. It’s a 2020 Expedition, and everything seems to be working fine, so I’m not sure if it’s something serious or just a warning for low tire pressure or something. Anyone know what this could be?

Grinding noise when accelerating: What could be causing this in my Expedition?
Posted by: v8ismyheart - 09-23-2024, 03:25 PM - Forum: Expedition - No Replies

Hey folks, looking for some advice here. My 2015 Ford Expedition has started making this weird grinding noise when I accelerate, especially when I really hit the gas. It’s most noticeable from the front end, and the noise kind of sounds like metal rubbing on metal. The strange thing is, it doesn’t happen when I’m cruising, only when I’m accelerating from a stop or trying to pick up speed fast.

My first thought was maybe it’s something with the transmission (fingers crossed it’s not), but I’m not sure. Could it be the CV joints or maybe a bad wheel bearing? I’ve heard a few people mention that. I haven’t noticed any issues with the gears shifting, so I’m hoping it’s not transmission-related. Also, the noise gets worse the harder I accelerate, so I’m thinking it might be drivetrain or suspension-related.

Has anyone had a similar issue? I’ve checked the tire treads, and they seem fine, but I haven’t gotten under the car to inspect the driveshaft or other components yet. I really don’t want to take it to the shop without having a clue what’s going on (those guys love to charge you for everything under the sun). Any thoughts on where I should start troubleshooting? Could it be something as simple as low transmission fluid, or am I looking at a bigger issue here? Any tips or experience would be a huge help!
