I've got a 3.0 Ford Ranger and wondering what other transmissions can fit without major mods. Anyone tackled this before?
The 4R44E and 5R55E from similar years usually fit pretty well. You might need some minor adjustments to the mounts and the linkage, but they align well.
Agree with WheelieWill. Also, look at transmissions from the Mazda B-Series trucks – they're basically the same vehicle and use similar parts.
You can also consider the A4LD, but you might need to modify your shifter assembly if switching to older models. Always check the compatibility of the control systems.
Just remember, whichever transmission you go for, make sure you get the torque converter that matches or you're looking at potential misalignment. Also, verify sensor compatibility to avoid ECM issues.
