Is it just me, or does coolant smell kinda sweet? I’ve been getting this faint, sweet smell inside my 2016 Expedition over the past few days, and I’m starting to think it might be a coolant leak. The weird thing is, I haven’t noticed any obvious leaks under the car or in the engine bay. No puddles or anything like that, but that sweet smell makes me wonder if something’s up.
I know that coolant has a distinct smell, almost like syrup, but should I be concerned if I’m smelling it inside the cabin? Could it be something like the heater core starting to go bad? I’ve heard horror stories about heater cores leaking and causing all kinds of issues (and expensive repairs). The windows aren’t fogging up, and I haven’t noticed any coolant loss from the reservoir, so I’m kind of at a loss here.
Has anyone else dealt with this? Should I be checking certain areas like hoses or clamps for slow leaks? I’d rather catch it early before it turns into a bigger problem, but I don’t want to panic if this is just normal. Let me know what you guys think—if this smell means trouble, or if I’m just overthinking it!
