What Is the Firing Order for a 4.0 Ford Ranger Coil Pack?

Trying to replace the coil on my Ford Ranger 4.0 and got mixed up with the firing order. Can anyone confirm what it is?

It's 1-4-2-5-3-6. Remember, when you're looking at the engine from the front bumper, cylinder #1 is on the passenger side closest to you.

Yes, Greg is spot on. Also, keep in mind that the coil pack assembly might be labeled with numbers matching to each cylinder, making it simpler to relate.

This is exactly what I did last year. Label everything before you start disconnecting any of the wires. It’ll save you a headache later on. Drawing a small diagram helped me a lot!

I’ve been there before—it’s easy to get mixed up with the firing order when working on your truck, especially if you’re in the middle of replacing something like the coil. For your Ford Ranger 4.0, the firing order is 1-4-2-5-3-6.
