How do I check the charging system on a Ford Bronco? Here's how!
#1
If you're having battery issues with your Bronco, a good way to check the charging system is by measuring the voltage at the battery terminals while the engine is running. Grab a multimeter and set it to measure DC voltage. Start your Bronco and let it idle, then place the multimeter leads on the battery terminals, red on positive and black on negative. Ideally, you should see a reading between 13.5 and 14.5 volts. If the voltage is lower than that, it might indicate a problem with the alternator or the voltage regulator. If the voltage is too high, it could be overcharging, which can also lead to battery issues. Either way, if your readings are off, it’s a sign you should take a closer look at the alternator or regulator. These parts tend to wear out over time, especially if you’ve got an older Bronco. Keeping an eye on this can save you from a dead battery at the worst possible time.
